Once again, House Arts was a fabulous success, each house creating much joy for the audiences. The entertaining storylines based on this year’s theme “Movie Magic” were greatly enhanced by the ‘top notch’ acting, singing, music, tech, and dancing, and for both the cast members and audience, without a doubt, memories were made that would indeed last a lifetime.
Annually, House Arts is a busy yet rewarding period of the academic year. House Captains and teams of students gather from across all year groups to put on a brilliant performance in such a small window of time. The long-lasting Wolverhampton Girls’ High School tradition of House Arts evokes fierce competitiveness in all students’ and staff as they battle to be the overall winner. Not only does each house have to perform, but the House Arts team, with sixth formers taking leadership, have to write a script, transpose and write music, organise set, costume, hair and makeup, and have to dedicate their own time into directing and choreographing behind the scenes, before the spectacular (although somewhat stressful!) day.
A warmth of gratitude should be directed to all of those who took part and supported their house this year, with the event enhancing and enriching the diverse school community further and creating friendships that would certainly last a lifetime across a great range of year groups.
It is a great pleasure to see the beauty of House spirit on the day, with the loud chants of Audley, Ferrers, Paget, and Stafford to echo through the school walls for centuries, each house becoming a family of “big sisters and little sisters”, always being there for one another, further building also, those Form time relationships. It becomes a learning experience for all, as it develops leadership, teamwork, organisation, time management, and communication skills, therefore the day being a hugely rewarding result, no matter the outcome.
“I always look forward to House Arts each year and it definitely lived up to my expectations. All the Houses were incredible, and you could see that they put a lot of effort into it.”- Grace Mahoney Year 12
A plethora of awards were on offer, ranging from Best Acting to Best Script to Best Tech. Each house and certain individuals won certificates and awards, elation plaguing the faces of the winners as the certificates were collected with pride, smiles from teachers’ and students’ being almost infectious throughout the hall on the results morning.
Every single house worked tremendously hard, and it is greatly important to recognise the effort and work in each performance, with the judges undoubtedly impressed by the sheer talent on offer.
As House Arts 2024 Season has come to an end, post-show depression has inevitably hit all of the students of Girls’ High hard. It was a brilliant showcase of performances across the board and WGHS is excited for another year of House Arts in 2025. As student’s we will look forward to that whilst we look back at the fond memories made from House Arts 2024.
Thank-You for Reading!
And watch this space for WGHS Shrek 2025!!!
